A book that touched my heart

Image
A book that touched my heart No. I am not going to talk about Harry Potter. Or Percy Jackson. Or The Da Vinci Code. They all are brilliant books but they never touched me emotionally. I felt like I was a character in those books. But it is a different experience in the book I am going to talk about. "Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry' is a book written by Mildred.D.Taylor. It talks about the hardships and plight of the coloured children in Jackson, in the southern state of Mississippi. Simple gifts, those that we consider ordinary and take for granted are a blessing to them.  They walk for hours to school while the white children with a heart full of contempt come to school in a bus, never thinking about their predicament if they were coloured. They however enjoy the simple blessing of education and are fascinated by receiving a book of their own as none of them have their own book other than the Bible. This...

High school evaluation in a different perspective

High school evaluation ; a different perspective                          Isn't it more logical to make the colleges admissions holistic rather than purely based on entrance exams and to some extent the marks in school ? With this the nation can produce more abstract thinkers, people who will innovate and think outside the box.  The idea of good colleges in India is to accept only the best and brightest of the nation with relation to their marks and thinking capabilities. Shouldn't universities accept people holistically, that is, looking at what they achieved as a person. These people would have explored all the difficulties in life and would be ready to make the world a better place. They would be from different backgrounds and would have their own thought structure formed by different experiences. The varied challenges faced by them will endeavour them to come up with unthinkable solutions t...

A dream come true

A dream come true The matches lost by RCB are innumerable. Yet the die hard fans of Bengaluru with renewed invigoration every passing year never forget to cheer for the star-studded team without a trophy. Are these fans you might ask ? Or just a crazy mob with no purpose ?  Fans would be the perfect word here. But fans are not those from Mumbai or Chennai. In the last few years MI and CSK have won every alternate IPL. These fans have only experienced the joy after a victory, not the bone-crunching sadness faced by RCB fans  every  year.                                                          Closer Closer now to the cup, just 3 more ...

#Change in Judiciary

Image
#Change in Judiciary Isn't it for the best to have a jury, a broad-minded decision-maker in the court of law? The constitutional rights and future lives of thousands of people are put at stake and are given away many times because of a decision influenced by the stereotypical thought structure of that one judge or the that small panel of judges. The decision they make may be biased whereas jurors will be from different walks of life and their final decision depends not on one juror but on the entire jury. India needs the normal, uninfluenced crowd to make decisions. They all have different viewpoints and the decision of each juror depends on his experience and how he sees the issue. Any citizen can be called to serve his nation as a juror and force his opinions down i...

The Endless Race of Life

Image
The Endless Race of Life We are all following this dream aren't we ? One with money innumerable and the passion to work harder just for that. Trying to increase your salary even if you have crossed the extent of success, even if you can't do more. You push yourself until you fall. Is this the right way ? Life is short and what should we do in this time that flies away so fast ? Should we try to cross all limits of success or just cherish the small, peaceful moments of life. Is it just human nature to talk beyond each other's backs, trying to fire someone to come ahead of him or her just for that promotion. Or is it a habit imbibed by you from the environment around ? Is there any limit to success ? That largely depends on how you measure it, that is by success or happiness....

#Unrecognised Inequality

Image
#Unrecognised Inequality    Should 33% seats be reserved for women in the parliament ? No !  The Parliament has been the symbol of the Indian democracy and republic for decades but the problem here is in the root itself !! This democracy moves and walks with politics. But if the thought structure changes in the roots itself , voila, we may just remove any gender differentiation. Why does nobody feel that in the process of giving gender equality we are demoting women's stature by implying that they can't claim these seats by merit ! It is a huge insult said right on their face in the name of gender equality ! This stereotyping of women has made our thoughts trapped in a box. Never believing that the world has moved on into a new society open to all, embracing thoughts without any prejudice, bec...

The Art of Rejecting Calls

Image
The Art of Rejecting Calls This topic is not something everybody talks about. It is just an intangible art embedded in the daily lives of almost everyone in the modern generation. All people, men and women constantly reject calls and give hopeless excuses that can be smelled a mile away. Isn't it fascinating to know that this art comes along like a gift package and is scheduled to show its capabilities at the age of 20.  It's just a habit inculcated by the daily rejection of calls and ignoring them with a voice in your mind saying - I don't have time'.  Is that really the reason or just an excuse by someone who is  obsessed with his daily life,  to reject variation in life ? It maybe an excuse said ...
