Dawn after Dusk -- A New Plan for RCB

Image
RCB have been playing catch-up for the past few seasons but with a few key players released from RCB and other teams this is a big opportunity for RCB to buck up. I wouldn't say that Udana and Shivam Dube were good releases since Udana's variations are really helpful and Dube can become better after a few years. It feels like RCB is just trying to get a clear-cut team which is pushing them towards the wrong track. They need to train players and with these players released they will now need to go all out on Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham. We need a good bowler but I think RCB will mostly just take Morris and Udana back since all the best bowlers are taken. We can also take Mathew Wade after his show in the India tour of Australia recently. Carey is a  good option and can come in at  No.4. Also Daniel Sams, being a left-arm bowler will be a good addition to the team. Awaiting for the auction on Feb 18th I will be both excited and nervous hoping for a better and st...

Too Harsh to be True ---When Stars are Scattered

Image
When I first found out that "When stars are Scattered" was a graphic novel I felt that it would be boring. It was more like stepping down a level instead of moving up. A range of emotions ran through me- mostly confusion. Stumped, I did what I usually do when in doubt. I read. And read. The book caught my attention and the fact that it was a true story amazed me even more. Boredom- a feeling that was never expressed and enlarged by any authors was constantly used here, rightly so. This book is about Omar and his brother Hassan who are in a refugee camp called Dadaab in Kenya- taken care of by their foster mother, Fatima. They were forced to move there during the war in Somalia, their hometown. With their father dead and their mother lost they don't have a purpose in life- a feeling enlarged by the boredom. Education here was limited, like a lollipop. Only if you were among the toppers would you have a chance to go to middle school or high school. They tried to savour the...

Mouth stays open--- Too difficult to digest --A month of cricket

Image
Wow ! Takes some time to digest huh? Pujara's blow and that brilliant six by Sundar of Pat cummins. The brilliant Sundar - Thakur partnership almost blew me over the edge. What a month of cricket! I could have chosen this over a World Cup final. Well, who would have thought that the weakest Indian cricket team ever defeated one of the best sides in their own homeground and won in Gabba (their undefeated arena) narrowly when the coaches found it difficult to form a playing 11. Now the admiration of Pujara after all those blows has certainly gone up. Who could have made a story without King Kohli and with the villian Steve Smith ? Unlucky for the film industry who couldn't come up with such a story first !! It is difficult to comprehend if the Indian Team had already thought of going for a victory before Tea on Day 5 (Gabba Test). Well, we can certainly say that Saha has a very slim chance of making it into the Test side since Pant has definitely played an innings to remember. Ho...

A book that touched my heart

Image
A book that touched my heart No. I am not going to talk about Harry Potter. Or Percy Jackson. Or The Da Vinci Code. They all are brilliant books but they never touched me emotionally. I felt like I was a character in those books. But it is a different experience in the book I am going to talk about. "Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry' is a book written by Mildred.D.Taylor. It talks about the hardships and plight of the coloured children in Jackson, in the southern state of Mississippi. Simple gifts, those that we consider ordinary and take for granted are a blessing to them.  They walk for hours to school while the white children with a heart full of contempt come to school in a bus, never thinking about their predicament if they were coloured. They however enjoy the simple blessing of education and are fascinated by receiving a book of their own as none of them have their own book other than the Bible. This...

High school evaluation in a different perspective

High school evaluation ; a different perspective                          Isn't it more logical to make the colleges admissions holistic rather than purely based on entrance exams and to some extent the marks in school ? With this the nation can produce more abstract thinkers, people who will innovate and think outside the box.  The idea of good colleges in India is to accept only the best and brightest of the nation with relation to their marks and thinking capabilities. Shouldn't universities accept people holistically, that is, looking at what they achieved as a person. These people would have explored all the difficulties in life and would be ready to make the world a better place. They would be from different backgrounds and would have their own thought structure formed by different experiences. The varied challenges faced by them will endeavour them to come up with unthinkable solutions t...

A dream come true

A dream come true The matches lost by RCB are innumerable. Yet the die hard fans of Bengaluru with renewed invigoration every passing year never forget to cheer for the star-studded team without a trophy. Are these fans you might ask ? Or just a crazy mob with no purpose ?  Fans would be the perfect word here. But fans are not those from Mumbai or Chennai. In the last few years MI and CSK have won every alternate IPL. These fans have only experienced the joy after a victory, not the bone-crunching sadness faced by RCB fans  every  year.                                                          Closer Closer now to the cup, just 3 more ...

#Change in Judiciary

Image
#Change in Judiciary Isn't it for the best to have a jury, a broad-minded decision-maker in the court of law? The constitutional rights and future lives of thousands of people are put at stake and are given away many times because of a decision influenced by the stereotypical thought structure of that one judge or the that small panel of judges. The decision they make may be biased whereas jurors will be from different walks of life and their final decision depends not on one juror but on the entire jury. India needs the normal, uninfluenced crowd to make decisions. They all have different viewpoints and the decision of each juror depends on his experience and how he sees the issue. Any citizen can be called to serve his nation as a juror and force his opinions down i...
