Left Gasping- When Breath Becomes Air

Image
Left Gasping- When Breath Becomes Air I turned the last page in horror- still comprehending what I had read, an incredible piece of writing - truly justifying the fact that the dying can teach us most about life. This is a story I recently read about an Indian, born and raised in America.  He combines literature and science to truly understand life-its aftermath and its effect. He soon goes to Stanford, Cambridge and finally Yale for medical school. With endless jobs available and a future of success before him he chooses to follow his passion of medicine and becomes a neurologist. He walks us through his residency- his first encounter with death, the emotional instability of doctors and  their devotion to the Hippocratic oath. He marries Lucy and decides to settle in California. In the sixth year of his residency his life takes an unexpected turn when it is confirmed that he has lung cancer- forcing him to count his days. He also explains the absurdity of sitting in the patien

Paris- The Last Piece of The Puzzle

Paris- The Last Piece of The Puzzle The 5 hour journey came to an abrupt stop, pushing me to realize that this was the last city in our 15 day tour of Europe. I pushed that fleeting thought away; determined to enjoy Paris and not dwell about our flight back home. We quickly left for the hotel, the rain on the window clouding my view - the same drizzle that I had come to adore. This city emanated the word " cosmopolitan". The cobbled streets were narrow which made it uniquely beautiful. The hubbub of the city fascinated me, even more so by its greenery and antiquity. The Eiffel Tower was like a beacon of hope - standing up to lift the people and pushing them to cross that line tha

Meadows bordered with mountains on one side,a glistening lake shining with sunlight, snow-capped mountains bordering it and a rather small town on the shores of this lake with an undisturbed fairy-like aura over it. We soon reached a wooden house with a colossal mountain behind it and snow-capped mountains in front. A cool breeze rustled the quiet villament. The temperature was just perfect - 20 degrees - yet again forcing that thought to breach my mind - the irrefutable fact of God's involvement in the making of this place. I had never imagined heaven but this seemed like a perfect replica of it. We had rented this house for 4 days but they were just not enough.  We went for a short walk later - it was too late to do anything less. It was late evening yet sunlight masked this area.... sunset was at 8. A de
