Switzerland- Heaven on Earth

                                 Switzerland- Heaven on Earth

It seemed as if the view from the train made up for the long and arduous 7 hour journey from Venice to Interlaken. Meadows bordered with mountains on one side,a glistening lake shining with sunlight, snow-capped mountains bordering it and a rather small town on the shores of this lake with an undisturbed fairy-like aura over it.

We soon reached a wooden house with a colossal mountain behind it and snow-capped mountains in front. A cool breeze rustled the quiet villament. The temperature was just perfect - 20 degrees - yet again forcing that thought to breach my mind - the irrefutable fact of God's involvement in the making of this place. I had never imagined heaven but this seemed like a perfect replica of it.

We had rented this house for 4 days but they were just not enough.

We went for a short walk later - it was too late to do anything less. It was late evening yet sunlight masked this area.... sunset was at 8. A desolate road with a mountain ahead and a train chugging up vertically - we stood in awe of the view, took videos and promised each other to find out the destination of this train.

That walk defined Switzerland for me - a sole memory I shall never forget.

The next day we went to Mount Titlis. We reached its peak through cable carts giving an eagle's view of the entire area - a blur of lakes and houses with mountains covering our view.  We couldn't see much from there as the fog there made it difficult to see.

On the third day we went to Jungfrau. It was a long journey by train there but definitely worth it. We went to the Ice Plateau on the top from where we could see a view of Jungfrau unobstructed and a valley bordered on either side by snow-capped mountains and on the floor of the valley were hiking trails the sole indication of human presence there.

We also went to the Ice Palace- an ice walkway. Everything was ice, the floors were ice, the walls were ice and so were the ceilings. Momentarily stopping to admire the ice sculptures of animals we soon left Jungfrau to return to Interlaken.

On the last day we went to a small town named Montreux on the borders of Lake Geneva housing the Chateau de Chillon castle- Switzerland's most visited castle and one of the only Medieval castles in Europe that was never captured in a siege.

What struck me most was its similarity to a castle I had always dreamed of - its architecture taken out of my dreams and location near a lake by a mountain.

The trip was great - marking for me, Switzerland a devotee of Mother Earth.

Remember that train? Well ,we could never visit the destination of the train due to lack of time. Perhaps some other day.............
