The Immigrant's Curse (Part 1)

The plane taxied down the highway of Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport; a grim smile on the passengers faces after the tedious journey. As he stepped out of the plane he was greeted by a rush of warm, humid air -  a typical Mumbai summer special. He walked out of the airport and addressed his family with a nod which they pretended not to notice. He would have been ashamed of his family shouting in the Mumbai mob back home but he was cut loose from his family and friends that were in India. They were almost...strangers to him now. He suddenly felt like a celebrity and those people were like paparazzi. With non-existent fear of humiliation creating a bubble of charisma and confidence he walked on only to be assailed with eager faces yearning to know about his lavish life. Well, he had not really expected this, had he? He was hoping to start a new chapter in his life once again. He had come to his roots again. But he was disconnected from the modern India - maybe these weren't his roots any

An Intricate Entity

Words are spoken, sometimes unforgettable ones, Intrinsic to our understanding is an unquestioned force Human conscience is almost too far, just beyond our grasp An interdimensional communication An inherent ability of right and wrong The mere power to make decisions Without any theoretical understanding Seems fascinating in its own way The internal state of the human mind - the last frontier for science The voice inside speaks so loud Confusing, many a times An educated moral understanding Serendipity its assumed to be Conscience is way more than that Its magnitude far more The sixth sense- an intricate entity

The Kohli Era

Image
Virat Kohli has a certain aura around him - charismatic with a daring look in his eyes, erupting at the slightest hint of a challenge.  Stripping Kohli of his power was almost unimaginable since his power as a leader and a batsman has caused awe bringing about a new era in Indian men's cricket, fearless India never hesitating to take risks and was not afraid to lose while attempting to win a Test match. His everlasting energy and 'never say die' attributes brought about a fear in the opponents. As was said by Nathan Lyon- Kohi had the Australian fire in him. He was a boisterous skipper, ready to speak his mind. Kohli unknowingly made the cricket field alive- pushing on players and his victories in the SENA countries with his stellar performances establish his significance as a player.                   Being a fitness-fanatic he brought about a fitness standards with an all-round development of a cricket and a powerful seam attack that was now a match for Pakistan's pac

In The Back Of My Mind

The airplane coasted over the slums of Mumbai, Chiding at the cynicism of the high-rise in NYC Soon, we were walking towards the taxi, Hot humid air sticking to our faces Dark-complexioned men all around filling a void inside me Even though they were strangers Even though they were unknown They somehow filled the wide abyss in my heart People surrounded me Everywhere I looked I could see ME I could see myself around me After all those years of confusion I could finally see an Indian like me..... Poignancy, sheer exhilaration and nostalgia gripped me Unwillingly bringing me back Taking me along to the India of 1990's My country somehow felt different to me, A stranger in the back of my mind So close yet just out of reach An indescribable feeling to me Exasperating my piqueness to no end I searched and searched Until I just stopped.  I stopped looking for an answer And started accepting

Passion - Its Never Too Far Away

The mountains stood tall Towering over us as if to protect Ironically now the Taliban's base The wonder of Kabul was now lost in war Squelched beneath contemptuously The lush green valleys  The "seventh heaven" For Khushal and Rahman Were now ludicrously a gateway to heaven As the Taliban took over Kabul Hope was merely a dream A dream too good to come true Us jovial Afghans though never lost hope Even though in every history book Afghanistan was always there  Stifled by war but never too ancient to not fight again War was now a routine A part of life Too late to deny it Accepting it was all that we do Surrounded by death Swathed by fear Emerging out of that void Was a story A story that made me  Since the future showed but a glimmer of hope All that was left to look towards was "today" Culture was subdued At that time when all I could see was smoke and death My passion stood up for me My passion was my identity My passion made my story...... (P.S. This is a sh

The Middle East - Suffocated by Rules

A black dark veil covered by face With small holes I saw the outside world While the others stared at my hijab cautiously Trying to figure out what's underneath it The heat and humidity stuck to my face Closing around me Constantly Taunting me, Just like this new world I was in exhaustion Tired by the suffocation Polygynous marriage common here Distrust between the wives  A barrier, impossible to cross Limits more often than not Accepting reality the importance of life The scared mind pushing reality closer and closer Till at once there is no hope but to accept Scared by the terrorism Fighting and terror seemingly just beyond the hills Looking at you with a sly smirk Waiting calmly for the winter to set in Waiting to wreak havoc In Allah's name Waiting to put lives at stake In Allah's name Jihad overcoming the government In Allah's name

My First Social Venture

Image
I recently joined an organisation known as 1M1B - a future skills initiative aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  It provides us a platform through which we can follow our passion and impact the common people to create an impact and thus make the world a better place. https://www.activate1m1b.org/Future-Leaders/index.html  Through this initiative we are given opportunities to solve world problems and enhance our leadership qualities. Personal mentoring sessions provided by 1M1B also help since the mentor has done social projects himself and thus has lot of experience which really helps you when you need experience and support in difficult situations. After a few sessions we were given a task of establishing a project through social media presence in 2 weeks and I decided to work on reducing the COVID vaccine hesitancy and thus tried to play my part in India's battle against Covid.  Even though we were only supposed to work on our project for 2 weeks
