Passion - Its Never Too Far Away

 The mountains stood tall

Towering over us as if to protect

Ironically now the Taliban's base

The wonder of Kabul was now lost in war

Squelched beneath contemptuously

The lush green valleys

The "seventh heaven"

For Khushal and Rahman

Were now ludicrously a gateway to heaven

As the Taliban took over Kabul

Hope was merely a dream

A dream too good to come true

Us jovial Afghans though never lost hope

Even though in every history book

Afghanistan was always there

Stifled by war but never too ancient to not fight again

War was now a routine

A part of life

Too late to deny it

Accepting it was all that we do

Surrounded by death

Swathed by fear

Emerging out of that void

Was a story

A story that made me

Since the future showed but a glimmer of hope

All that was left to look towards was "today"

Culture was subdued

At that time when all I could see was smoke and death

My passion stood up for me

My passion was my identity

My passion made my story......

(P.S. This is a short story about a fictional character in Kabul. I got this idea after reading "The Kite Runner")
